The Nîmes Arena
The Nîmes Arena is one of the best-preserved Roman amphitheatres in the world. Built at the end of the 1st century, it could accommodate up to 24,000 spectators who came to watch gladiator fights. Today, it still hosts many cultural events, concerts, and performances.
The Museum of Romanity
Located opposite the Arena, the Museum of Romanity offers an immersive journey into the Roman history of Nîmes. It features remarkable collections, including mosaics and ancient artefacts, as well as modern interactive displays. Its rooftop terrace also offers panoramic views of the Arena.
The Maison Carrée
The Maison Carrée is a remarkably well-preserved Roman temple and an iconic example of ancient architecture. Built during the reign of Emperor Augustus, it was dedicated to the heirs of the Empire. Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, it now houses a museum space that helps visitors better understand the history of the city.
The Carré d’Art
As you leave the Maison Carrée, you will notice the Carré d’Art. Designed by architect Norman Foster, this contemporary building houses a modern art museum and a multimedia library. Its glass architecture creates an elegant contrast with the surrounding ancient monuments.
The Magne Tower The Magne Tower is the most impressive remaining vestige of the ancient Roman fortifications. Located on the heights of the Jardins de la Fontaine, it offers exceptional views over the city and the surrounding area. Climbing to the top is well worth it to admire this unique panorama.
The Museum of Fine Arts The Museum of Fine Arts of Nîmes houses a rich collection of artworks ranging from the Renaissance to the modern era. It is particularly renowned for its large Roman mosaic displayed in the atrium. Art lovers will discover many high-quality European works there.
